Dandelion Project Awarded Colorado Garden & Home Grant to Revitalize the Highland Garden- Now We Need Volunteers!

Colorado Home & Garden

The 2010 Colorado Garden & Home Show is February 13-21 at the Colorado Convention Center. A portion of the show’s income provides funds for scholarships and grants. This year the Children’s Law Center was awarded $7,500 to enlarge and enhance the Dandelion Project’s Highlands community garden.

With this generous support , pro-bono design work from Eric McNeal and S7g Architecture, and the help of community volunteers; the Highlands Garden will undergo a transformation this spring. A new storage building will keep our tools clean, safe, and organized. We will double the growing area, allowing more children to participate at this location. The garden will become home to additional shade and fruit trees, gathering areas, and work spaces.

At the heart of this child-friendly, horticultural therapy garden, a Sensory Garden full of Forget-me-nots, Impatiens, Curiosity and Sensitive Plants, and even Brave-heart and Outrageous Lettuces, will evoke feelings through color, scent, touch. This special garden will give the children we serve the chance to name their feelings as they explore the fascinating world of nature.

To make this dream a reality we need the help of volunteers. Lots of volunteers! If you are interested in transforming the Highlands Community Garden into a safe-haven for abused and neglected children please email Carol LaRocque at clarocque@law.du.edu or call 303.692.1165.
