Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center staff attorneys are appointed by the court to serve as guardians ad litem for over five hundred of Colorado’s abused and neglected children. Our specialized attorneys accept a limited number of cases to ensure they have time to get to know each child and his/her situation to make appropriate recommendations on his/her behalf.
The Children’s Law Center is focused on achieving five key life-changing goals for our child clients:
• Achieving Permanence: Ensure child clients have loving, permanent homes as quickly as possible to allow them to develop meaningful family relationships and heal.
• Keeping Siblings Together: Advocate to place all siblings together or facilitate meaningful contact between them (when appropriate) to maintain as much normalcy as possible for children in the chaos of state care.
• Stopping Arbitrary Moves: Challenge all arbitrary moves to promote stability, reduce the number of times children move between placements, and diminish the potential for attachment disorders.
• Implementing A Holistic Approach: Identify and advocate for necessary schooling and appropriate mental health treatment for all of our child clients to help them heal from past traumas as quickly as possible.
• Easing the Transition for Youth 18 Years and Over: Help youth forced to leave foster care at age 18 develop into self-sufficient adults.
