Sally's Story

sally

When Sally was two years-old her mother abandoned her to a neighbor. Jane took the girl in and never thought to alert Social Services. Nine years later, Sally’s older sister visited Jane and asked if she could take in Sally and care for her. Jane agreed and the little girl completely lost touch with the only mother figure she ever really knew. Six months later, Sally was removed from her sister’s home and placed in foster care. Sally’s sister had been using drugs and severely abused Sally. This is when Sally was appointed a Children’s Law Center attorney, Kelli. Sally was very shy and barely spoke to anyone. She talked about “her mother” in an abstract way, but it took time for Sally to trust anyone. Through Kelli’s efforts to build a relationship with Sally, she finally shared her story. Prior to this, no one knew that there was a family who loved and missed Sally. Kelli tracked down Jane and reconnected her with Sally. Sally was adopted by Jane this past July.
